Quick
Interview Tips
by Sue Kraul
-
Dress to impress - but dress appropriately for the
job. A business suit is not the best choice for a
gardening position.
-
Arrive early - be prepared for traffic tie-ups or
parking problems. Better to be calm and composed than
running in out of breath and frazzled.
-
Look the interviewer in the eye - maintaining eye
contact indicates good self-esteem and confidence
in your abilities.
-
Offer a firm handshake - especially important for
women during that awkward moment when introductions
first take place. It establishes that you are in control
(rather than cowering in the corner from nervousness!)
-
Smile - conveys a friendly attitude and ability to
function in stressful situations.
-
Ask Questions - shows initiative in learning more
about the business and your interest in working there.
-
Express thanks - for the opportunity to meet the employer
and his time spent interviewing you.
-
Ask for follow-up - get a definite date when you should
expect notification or should contact them for further
instructions.
-
Collect all your belongings - you'll feel foolish
if you have to go back to retrieve something left
behind.
